The Desert Winds Concert Band (DWFB) is excited to present their 2018 spring concert “Hear Me Roar”, an inspirational show featuring music composed by leading contemporary American Women composers and music written about women. This uplifting performance will be held on Sunday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the Richards Center for the Performing Arts, Palm Springs High School at 2248 Ramon Road.
Musical selections to be showcased will include: “Journey Through Orion”, “Broadway Center Stage”, “Riversong” and the powerful “Witch and The Saint.” The incomparable Keisha D will sing a new arrangement of “I Am Woman” with the Jazz Band. The audience will be in for a real treat with the melodic talents of VOCOLACITY, a hi-energy vocal jazz quartet performing “Just In Time.”
“For the last 6 seasons the Desert Winds Freedom Band has been proud to host a variety of world-renowned composers and sponsor workshops for local high school bands. This year, the band is delighted to showcase its first female composer, Dr. Kimberly Archer from the University of Southern Illinois, Edwardsville. Dr. Archer is making waves in the concert band world and we are excited to perform two of her newest works. You won’t want to miss the desert’s own community band perform this diverse concert including marches, Broadway hits, classical and contemporary themes,” said Dean McDowell, Artistic Director, DWFB.
